Through practical tools and frameworks, we will help managers assess the financial starting point of their company or business unit and discover how to drive results by understanding their organization's challenges and opportunities in Economic Profit (EP) value creation. This will better equip them to build a strategic platform and make the right strategic decisions at a later stage.
This module will therefore focus on the following areas;
1. We will focus entirely on how to create value through Economic Profit (EP)
We will develop the "Economic Profit Tree" and dive deep into its core components to understand how they relate to each other, create a common language, and understand how they drive EP value creation.
2. Return On Capital Employed (ROCE) is one of the key drivers within Economic Profit and also very actionable to most leaders
This element will be broken down to a granular business level to help top managers lead results improvement by gaining valuable insights, and effectively identifying the best actions for their organisations.
3. Economic decisions are only meaningful if they are communicated well and acted on by the organisation and other stakeholders
Through casework, we will identify key stakeholders and train on how to effectively simplify and communicate complex financial concepts, challenges, and decisions.
This module will be delivered in cooperation with McKinsey & Company.
The morning-to-late-evening program will, among other things, include an introduction to the entire program, learning and training with the Economic Profit Tree, best practices from external business executives, an introduction to and work on a roll-out business case, and practical results communication training in a "people lab studio."
2. Leading Strategy
Every company needs a strategy that points out a direction and has a plan on how to get there. The strategy needs to be distinct from competitors and easy to understand for all employees and partners. When the strategy communication creates engagement internally and externally, you have a very good starting point for the later execution phase.
This module will therefore focus on the following areas:
1. Defining Strategy
Unpack the meaning of strategy and explore what makes it effective. Learn to distinguish what strategy is—and isn’t—while building a clear strategic platform to guide organizational success.
2. Problem Solving for Impact
Master the seven steps of problem-solving, including hypothesis-driven methods, prioritization, and synthesis. Develop practical approaches to tackle challenges and deliver actionable insights.
3. Communicating Strategy
Refine your communication skills to adapt messaging, overcome biases, and inspire alignment. Build trust and ensure your strategy resonates across teams and stakeholders.
4. From Strategy to Execution
Bridge the gap between strategy and execution with tools like the strategic agenda wheel. Learn to transition seamlessly from strategic planning to impactful execution directly in your management meetings.
This module will be delivered in cooperation with McKinsey & Company.
The lunch-to-lunch program will, among other things, consist of learning and training with new strategic tools and frameworks, problem-solving training, best practices from an external business executive, continued work on the roll-out business case, and practical strategy communication training toward internal and external stakeholders.
3. Leading Execution
In this module we will learn how to turn strategy into execution by making the right things happen to improve speed and deal with complexity.The module will focus on the following;
The operating model puts everything you do towards the customer in a specific order. It is a logically constructed view of what the business does. When every employee understands the importance of their own input and positions, engagement and speed ensue.
An effective goal management process will build speed in the organisation. This means developing compelling OKRs, measuring actual performance through effective KPIs (key performance indicators), and then holding employees accountable for achieving results.
Good collaboration is essential for effective and speedy execution. It involves collaborating on the right things (and saying no to other activities), cultivating team players, and developing clear decision and governance procedures for who decides what (and especially for a matrixed organization).
To improve the quality of processes in the company, it is important to have rigorous discussions and yet achieve speedy decisions. The leadership challenge is to make sure you have the right “fights" with enough depth to make good decisions and then to quickly unite the team towards the implementation task ahead.
This module will be lead by Professor Morten Hansen
He is one of the world's leading experts on leadership. He has conducted extensive research highlighting how organizations and individuals can achieve better results by focusing on effective execution and smart collaboration.
The morning to late evening program will, among other things, include highlights from Morten Hansen's research, best practice business examples, continued work on the business roll-out case, and practical execution communication training. It will also contain one of Mr Hansen's renowned keynote speeches in a special dinner event setting.
4. Leading People
1. Understanding «the team» as the most powerful organizational unit
The leadership challenge is to take that trust and transform it into responsibility.
2. How the value of good planning and training make you more flexible and able to adapt quicker
When you secure quality and high performance in all roles & processes it is easier to be open for unpredictability and adapt quick.
Unpredicted external (and sometimes internal) factors will always appear during the execution phase. Great leaders are able to adapt quickly to these factors. This is much easier when you as a leader can consider changes against a solid and thoughtful plan.
3. Practise how to give and receive feedback and translate it into learning
Good feedback strengthens the teamwork through engaged employees that continuously develop themselves. The leader must recognize individuals strengths and continue to build them through adapting tasks and responsibilities. This gives a deep feeling of satisfaction and purpose that again creates a positive spiral effect. The employees self-realization is then driven by inner motivation that is stronger and more durable.
For this to happen feedback need to be done regularly and be specific, constructive, balanced, emphatic and not least honest!
This module will be delivered in cooperation with ex Norwegian Special Operations Command personell (Forsvarets Spesial Kommando).
The module will last 48 hours and it includes a series of practical leadership training exercises, primarily conducted outdoors. These group assignments are tailored to each team’s difficulty level and stress tolerance, offering a broad spectrum of experiences to develop leadership skills.
